Fisherman's Bend Page 22
This book was fun to write in that it gave me the opportunity to research some things that have always been of interest to me. There is so much information available on the Internet! The sites that I found useful in learning about Native Americans in Maine were
www.nativelanguages.org/maine.htm and
www.nativeamericans.com/penobscot.htm
The best information on oyster aquaculture was at
www.maineaquaculture.org/home
The sites dedicated to illegal drug use were staggering in number and content. I checked out several of them and found all of them to be eye-opening.
Acknowledgments
THANKS TO ALL who stepped up with clutch performances in the final leg of this voyage; first and foremost, my editor and friend Will Schwalbe. Huge thanks to the dynamic team at the Stuart Krichevsky Literary Agency—Stuart Krichevsky, Shana Cohen, and Kathryne Wick—who were seemingly undaunted by my many requests for help and need of encouragement.
Special thanks to Murray Gray for his answers to my questions about his career and experiences as a ship’s pilot in Penobscot Bay. Many thanks to my friend and neighbor Anna Jacobs, for her English to Spanish translations.
Thanks to all of the folks at Hyperion, especially Will Balliett, Brendan Duffy, Jane Comins, Phil Rose, and my very good friend and publicist, Christine Ragasa.
Thanks to my parents, Martha and James Greenlaw, for proofreading and cheering me on.
Thank you, Simon, for your patience.
